Food Handler Training and Certification Requirements New Brunswick’s legislation.
The Public Health Act came into effect on Nov. 20, 2009, replacing the Health Act. The Food Premises Regulation 2009-138 under the Public Health Act provides requirements for premises where food is processed, prepared, stored, handled, displayed, transported, sold and/or offered for sale. It is also outcome-focused, emphasizing food safety.
The transitional process has allowed for many aspects of the new legislation to be phased in. The purpose of the new food premises legislation is three-fold: 1) to protect the health and safety of the public; 2) to give roles and responsibilities to industry in controlling the safety and quality of food products; and 3) to give responsibilities to operators to meet outcomes for food safety.
Training and certification requirements The Food Premises Regulation prescribes new food handler training and certification requirements. 1) Beginning July 1st, 2012, a licensee who operates a Class 4 food premises shall ensure that there is at least one person present at all times in the area of a food premises where food is being prepared who holds a certificate confirming his or her successful completion of a food handling program offered by a community college or industry association or that has been determined by the Minister to be equivalent in content to that set out in the National Guidelines for Food Safety Programs in the Food Retail and Food Service Sectors as endorsed by the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Committee on Food Safety Policy, dated May 9, 2006. 2) Beginning July 1st, 2012, a licensee who operates a Class 4 food premises shall ensure that the manager of the food premises holds a certificate confirming his or her successful completion of a food handling program offered by a community college or industry association or that has been determined by the Minister to be equivalent in content to that set out in the National Guidelines for Food Safety Programs in the Food Retail and Food Service Sectors as endorsed by the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Committee on Food Safety Policy, dated May 9, 2006.
“Class 4” food premises is defined by the Food Premises Regulation Section 4(d) as premises where food (i) is prepared or processed without killing or pasteurizing or, if meat or fish is being prepared or processed, without thermal processing, and (ii) is for sale and is consumed on or off the premises but is not distributed wholesale. The New Brunswick Department of Health recognizes certain courses as equivalent to the National Guidelines for Food Safety Programs in the Food Retail and Food Service Sectors.

Terry Fox Run
2021 marks the 41st anniversary of the Terry Fox Run, with the official run date set this year for SUNDAY - September 19, 2021. This year’s theme, “One Day. Your Way,” reminds us of Terry’s famous quote: “Anything is possible if you try.”
The run (walk, bicycle, horse, scooter etc) will start in Grand Anse rue des Gare at 3:00 sharp. After the walk there will be a complimentary community homemade chicken bouillon, hot dogs, cake, ice cream and chocolate milk at the Pokeshaw Recreation Hall (take-out is available). Covid protocol will be adhered to. Last year we raised a RECORD $2000.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation. This year we hope to match or surpass that amount. If you have any questions or concerns, my contact information is posted below. Thank you, see you on September 19 - RAIN or Shine

Hi Kevin,
Just had a look at the electrical work that was performed today and everything looks satisfactory, we now have 4 additional outlets, the ones on the north wall now function and the kitchen lights are amazing......also the existing outlets at the kitchen counter tops have been upgraded..tripped breakers should be a thing of the past,,,

I spoke with the guys from Dugas Elec. this morning, we went over the work that remains to be done. I believe it is understood that some of this additional work will be extra cost from the original invoice. I will be available to close up the hall once their work is complete. Regards Paul.

Good afternoon
The heat pumps have been installed at the hall, three TOSOT 24,000 btus at a total cost of 7850$, tax included. This was completed in December. A protective roof was placed on the two units on the west side of the building. We have paid the installer and have applied for a rebate from NB Power. All three units seem to be working well.
Dugas Electric has completed the transfer of the electric panels and has installed all new LED lighting in the hall itself. Paul Murphy has moved the alarm panel to the entry where the new panel is placed. The alarm panel was not working before Paul moved it, we will have to have this checked and made functional. Dugas Electric said that they did not know how to repair it. Wilma has sent the payment to Dugas Electric and has sent the bill to the Regional Development Corporation. We expect to be reimbursed for 5000$ out of a total cost of 5500$.
After discussion mainly with Paul Murphy and Wilma we decided to request Dugas Electric to give the plugs in the kitchen more wattage. It seemed that when the kitchen was very busy the breakers would jump if more than one appliance was plugged to it. There are three plugs to be corrected. As well a new plug will be placed in the kitchen and a new plug will be installed for the coffee and the tea urns. I have sent an email to Eric Godin of Dugas Electric requesting a date for this work to be done. The lighting in the kitchen will be replaced with LED lighting as well. We will pay for these repairs from our own budget.
The wall in the kitchen where the electric panels were will have to be repaired. Several sheets of drywall will have to be installed. We will wait for the completion of the electrical wok to be completed before we repair. We hope to have this completed in the month of February. As well, we will have some repair work to do in the entry where the new electric panel is installed.
Hopefully we will not need to use the hall before we get the wall repaired.
Trusting that everyone is well and keeping safe in these unpredictable times. Looks like we will have to wait for a while for the vaccines. The hall could be used as a regional vaccination clinic when the vaccine starts rolling in.
